Second Opinion Software Chosen to Link Children's Centers in Missouri

Harbor City, CA (October 27, 1997) — Using Second Opinion Software (Gardena, CA, 310.538.2800) the State of Missouri Department of Health is establishing centers in rural areas to improve treatment access to those children suspected of abuse. Practitioners in these twenty centers can send images over standard telephone lines to specialists more familiar with signs of abuse. They can then conduct an interactive drawing tool session and focus on specific areas on the image. According to Lori Frasier, MD, Director of Pediatrics at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and Director of the project, using telemedicine software will serve a two fold purpose. Children may be treated by practitioners in their own community and still have access to specialists in larger cities, while providing peer review support to practitioners who recognize signs of abuse when presented.
