The State of
Oregon Expands Statewide
Telemedicine Network
Gardena, CA
(January 10, 2001) The
State of Oregon has chosen Second Opinion software as its telemedicine
solution in linking the sites of the Oregon Child Abuse Telemedicine
Project. Over the past two years two regional centers and
ten rural satellite offices have been established. This year they
are opening an additional regional center and five satellite locations.
Using standard telephone lines, a site can send questionable images for
review to a specialist more familiar with the signs of abuse. This
enables rural practitioners to treat children in their own communities,
while maintaining access to a specialist at a larger medical center.
Second Opinion is also used to provide peer review support and ongoing
medical education within the network.
About Second
Opinion:
Second Opinion supports
image capture from scanners, video devices, digital
camera, and CD-ROM libraries and transmits them over low
bandwidth communication lines. Point to point interactive
connectivity and email store and forward capabilities are
both available.
